Your journey

How it works, step by step

Send your file

Email us, stating your preferred surgeon, your MRI (report, and images if possible), a short description of your injury and your health insurance details.

First opinion and quote

The surgeon reviews your file. You receive a first opinion and an estimated quote, to be confirmed at your consultation.

Consultation in Paris

A knee examination is essential before deciding on surgery. You then receive the final quote.

Surgery

Day surgery: you are admitted in the morning and go home the same day. At least one follow-up consultation is then planned, in person or by video.

Rehabilitation and follow-up

Physiotherapy can usually take place at home, with a written protocol for your physiotherapist and planned follow-up.

Without French health insurance

What the quote includes

Without French national health insurance, costs are not reimbursed in France: you pay for your full treatment. This is why you receive an itemised quote before surgery.

  • Surgeon’s fees
  • Anaesthetist’s fees
  • Clinic costs: operating theatre, stay, fixation devices

Usually not included: travel, accommodation, medication, brace and crutches, physiotherapy sessions, any additional tests.

Payment: by bank card, no later than 48 hours before surgery. If payment has not been received by then, the operation is cancelled. You then receive detailed invoices to submit to your insurer.

Your insurer may cover part of the costs.
Before travelling, send the quote to your insurer and ask in writing what they will cover. Some international insurers can pay the clinic directly after prior approval.
Your situation

Depending on your country and cover

You live in France

If you have lived in France on a stable, regular basis for more than 3 months, you may be eligible for French national health insurance (PUMa): ask your local CPAM. In the meantime, or if you have private or expatriate insurance, we provide a quote.

You are insured in an EU country

For planned surgery, ask your insurer for an S2 form (prior authorisation). Without it, you may not be reimbursed: check with your insurer before booking. The European Health Insurance Card does not cover planned treatment.

You live outside the EU

For a medical visa, French consulates usually ask for a letter from the clinic, the quote and proof that you can pay. We provide the necessary medical documents once your surgery is scheduled.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I get an opinion without coming to Paris?

A first opinion based on your MRI is possible. The decision to operate is made after examining your knee in person.

How long do I need to stay in France?

Plan to stay at least 2 days. Surgery is performed as day surgery, with no overnight stay. You can then travel home without difficulty, on crutches: ask your airline or travel provider for reduced-mobility passenger assistance. At least one follow-up consultation is planned, in person or by video, so we can follow you up remotely.

Which languages do you speak?

English and French.

Can I do my rehabilitation in my home country?

Yes, in most cases. You leave with a written protocol for your physiotherapist.
